I am beyond excited about my new piece of equipment – a 7-quart Kitchen Aid Stand Mixer!
I have been squeezing by with my yellow 5-quart Kitchen Aid mixer that I bought seven years ago; however, I finally realized it was time for an upgrade, so Sweet Caroline Catering made its first big purchase! After all of the hard work that I’ve put old-yellow through (particularly this past year!), she earned an early retirement. Every time I mixed something on high speed, the pin on the hinge would move out of place and start to fall out, the paint had chipped off the bottom of the paddle attachment, and quite frankly, the mixing bowl was too small for some of the larger batches of batter that I now make.
My new mixer is a-mazing. She is super quiet, creams butter effortlessly on low speed, and whips up a meringue in no time. I have become obsessive about cleaning her so she will be around for many years to come.
I am not a nostalgic person (or a hoarder like some people in my family… you know who you are), but I couldn’t stand to get rid of my old Kitchen Aid mixer, so I decided to pack her away and put her in the back of our coat closet for now. Who knows, maybe one day it will be on display somewhere, like Julia Child’s kitchen at the Smithsonian – ha.
