Hello, my name is Caroline, and I am a sugar addict.
Originally from Atlanta, I moved to Washington, DC twelve years ago after completing my undergraduate studies at Vanderbilt University. I quickly got sucked into the political arena and spent ten years working on Capitol Hill and in the private sector, where I represented various trade associations and corporations before Congress. While working on Capitol Hill, I also put myself through graduate school at night to obtain my Master of Arts degree in Government at The Johns Hopkins University.
Although politics was exciting at times, in 2012, I decided that I needed a life change and made the bold decision to quit my job and move from politics to pastry. I enrolled at L’Academie de Cuisine in Gaithersburg, Maryland, and made the long trek to school in the dark every morning for six months. After school, I worked in the pastry kitchen at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts before deciding to go out on my own with Sweet Caroline Catering, LLC.
When I am not in the kitchen, I am usually working in my garden, volunteering at the Smithsonian and Miriam’s Kitchen, or taking some type of exercise class (hey, I have to burn off all of the sweets!). My husband, Chris, and I were married in 2008 and have since enjoyed eating and drinking our way through our many travels. We currently live in Alexandria, Virginia with our two pups, Olive and Stella.
